The wet theme continues…so still no work on the plot. It’s incredibly frustrating! I’ve got a week off over Easter and I’m hoping the weather will be drier for then so I can get some work done. I still need to turn about 30% of my plot into beds, plant fruit trees (am going for pot-grown rather than bare root to give myself more time to figure those out) and turn over/move most of the existing beds. I got my plot this time last year, and the photos from then show masses of sunshine and diggable earth…
I was very distracted by work this week, so didn’t pot on my seedlings when I should have. They got 3 inches high and horribly leggy, so I’m starting again. The chillies are starting to get a second pair of leaves and the others don’t seem to be doing very much. New into the propagator this week are 15 Cosmos, 10 cornflowers, 5 100s&1000s tomatoes, 4 Big Jim chillies and a pinch of celeriac giant prague. Still can’t find the monarch seeds, but the tins are now in chaos after the Edible Garden Show additions were stuffed in…
The Show was smaller than I expected, and with a lot less kit, so both Michelle’s and my dreams of extra stuff (windowsill staging & cold frames) came to nothing. James Wong was there, surrounded by a crowd of (mostly female) gardeners about 10-deep…
It was lovely to meet up with people from John Harrison’s forum after swapping emails and messages for so long – and the hog roast was the most delicious thing I have eaten in a while…! Just as we were leaving the heavens opened. Despite having a flimsy brolly and pegging it to the car that’s the wettest I’ve been in years. I could wring the bottom of my jeans out. I’m very grateful Maud’s heater is particularly ferocious, though driving a foggy-on-the-inside convertible isn’t the most fun in the world.
