AAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHH! I took a sneaky peek at how full my waterbutt is after all this rain (very full, almost to the brim!). In the process I’ve bust the careful balancing act inside it and the downpipe is no longer attached to the guttering. So now I have to get up with the sparrows tomorrow and fix it, somehow, most likely having to empty it to put the tactical flowerpot back in place. Grrrrrrrr.
I only had an hour there tonight, and painting the air blue about the water butt took about 10 minutes. I’ve dug up half the Desirees and have a reasonable haul stashed in the shed for now in a hessian bag. I reckon there will be enough to last us to Christmas, and I hope they keep that long.
A few of the Black Russians were either split or being munched by caterpillars (both brown and bright green), which is a shame – I’ve picked them all and taken home for turning to sauce and eating with mozzarella. There are still what seems like endless 100s&1000s on the bushes. Also took another 4 cobs back home – there are about 4 left and that’s it. I’m really pleased with both the corn and the tomatoes – my first year of growing one, and the first year blight didn’t get anything on my plot.
Also ordered more seeds. I was bored at lunchtime, and someone had posted about a new site – it seemed only fair to have a trawl through…
